Statement by Members of the Diocesan Council, 17 May 2006
As members of the Diocesan Council, we find that we cannot accept the decision of His Holiness Alexis II to remove from office and place in retirement Bishop Basil of Sergievo, who was elected by the Assembly and confirmed as Administrator of the Diocese by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, as it is contrary to the Statutes of the Diocese of Sourozh. We note also that in the appointment of Archbishop Innokentii as Temporary Administrator no consultation of the Diocesan Assembly took place. /signed/
